It is very important that you complete your homework during Spring Break as we will only have 1 week of school when you come back. That means that I will expect for you to have knowledge of WWI because you did your homework. The assignment will also be posted on the class website, www.mrsmadrigal.com – in case you lose this paper!

Assignment: Chapter 11 Section 1, 2, 3, and 4 – The “Terms, People and Places” that is found and the beginning of each section, and ALL standard check questions found within the chapter.

Wed, March 28th – Computer Lab

During your time in the computer lab you will be using online resources to learn about technology invented during the Industrial Revolution. See the Extra Credit assignment below too. If you are done early make sure you get started! Also, there will be a short quiz tomorrow on the Industrial Revolution so make sure you review your notes and study. You will receive a study guide to help you too. Period 3 especially (all students can too) please review Art during the Industrial Revolution answers below.

Step 1 – Visit the Digital library (link below) and choose from any of their paid subscriptions to begin your search (see recommended sites below). You should have one window with the class website and the other to do your research and browsing. I will not answer questions like “What do I do next?” if you don’t have the class website window open.

The recommended sites are Britannica Online, Gale Cengage, and Facts on File.

Step 2 – You will click on one of the sites and begin searching for the information on each invention to fill out the table in your handout. Don’t forget there’s one last question after you finish your research.

Use the search engines to find the “key words”  for example, you can write the inventor’s name or the invention.

Remember that it takes time to do some research so don’t get frustrated but enjoy exploring and learning!

Extra Credit: Industrialization and It’s Problems Today Due: April 9th

Requirments: 3/4-1 page written response, include a summary of the reading, your reactions, what you learned or what you already knew, and lastly how the articles relate to the problems during the Industrial Revolution.

9/11 Interviews through StoryCorp

StoryCorp is an organization that collects oral history of people in the US; individuals share their stories of an American experience and StoryCorp records and saves the story in a collection for others to listen and learn from. StoryCorp has a collection of 9/11 interviews of family members and friends who lost someone in the attacks. To better understand the gravity of the events, you will learn about individuals that were directly affected by the 9/11 attacks.

Browse the collection and listen to at least 5 or more interviews. Choose 2 stories to write and share with the class.

Step 2: Choose 2 interviews that had the greatest impact on you, and that you feel would be worth sharing.

Step 3: 1 -1.5 page Written Response, 12 font, double-spaced, Times Roman

  • Why did you choose the 2 interviews?
  • Why is it important to document and remember those that were directly involved in historical events – especially a historical event like 9/11?
  • How did listening to the interviews affect your understanding of 9/11?

Step 4: Be prepared to share your response with the class, the StoryCorp audio will be played first followed your 2 min response.

Holocaust Photo Project – Thurs/Mon Comp Lab

*Extra Credit Assignment if you’re ready to move on from the project during lab time. See instructions below.

Click on the link below to begin your research. Your objective during our time in the labs are to (1) select your photo (2) Type your written response. Refer to your project handout for each step of the project.

Things to keep in mind:

  1. As you browse through the archive of photographs, don’t get frustrated if you can’t find what you want. Try to be creative in what you write on the search engine. Also make sure you meet the requirements stated on the handout (1) Before Nazi Invasion (2) Common theme (3) Photo Information
  2. Once you’ve found your picture, copy and paste it on a blank Word document. You can resize the photo to your liking, and don’t forget to save the information that accompanies each photo.  Save Early, Save Often.
  3. Spend the time in the computer lab  finding a photo that is just “right.” Once you’ve found your photo, finished answering the questions on the back of the handout, begin the writing of your short essay. Refer to the rubric if you have questions.

Extra Credit Assignment: Due Wednesday

3/4-1 page response to any ONE of the following articles. Your response should include a summary, reactions to the reading, and explain how the events of the article, that are all about WWII, demonstrates how our society is dealing with the war 60 years later and how the events are still important (relevant) today.

My Life in History Research, June 10th & June 14th

Read over the requirements for the last project of the class. Your goals in our time in the computer labs are to gather information for the historical narratives of your project. Answer the question on the white handout to help you stay on track. Don’t forget about your interview questions that are due Monday.

To start with, visit first LAUSD’s digital library and click on “FACTS ON FILE” Click on the search engine “WORLD GEOGRAPHY AND CULTURE ONLINE” to find information on the country of your/parent/guardian’s birth. Select a country and click the various tabs on the left to help you learn about the government and history of the country you are researching.
